Basic Safety Training
The Maritime Training Center Of The Philippines
This training was the latest among all I attended and completed.
Basic safety training is an International Mariners Organizations (IMO) basic requirement for those who are planning to land a job aboard ships and offshore outrigs if I am not mistaken. Same way, that certificate issued for the completion of said training is also a mandatory requirement for a typical seaman's book application.
Basic Safety Training or BST was formerly known SOLAS "Safety Of Life At Sea" as stated in the SOLAS convention. When completed, will be issued with one Certificate Of Completion for the four courses.
So called BST is composed of four courses as follows;
1. EFA - Elementary / Emergency First Aid, IMO Model Course 1.13 (by: Ms. Christine Dolleton, RN)
2. PST - Personal Survival Technique, IMO Model Course 1.19 (by: Mr. Ruben B. Quirona)
3. BFF - Basic Fire Fighting, IMO Model Course 1.20 (by: Mr. Ruben B. Quirona)
4. PSSR - Personal Safety & Social Responsibility, IMO Model Course 1.21 (by: Mr. Ruben B. Quirona)
Theoritical lectures and examinations was held at The Maritime Training Center Of The Philippines - Antonino building, Kalaw corner Bocobo Streets, Ermita, Manila. Last day of the training was focused on the practical examination on Basic Fire Fighting & Personal Survival which was held at Sta Rosa training site.
